<![CDATA[London Fields grow ACT365 system]]> http://www.accesscontroltechnology.com/media/item/london-fields-grow-act365-system http://www.accesscontroltechnology.com/media/item/london-fields-grow-act365-system Tue, 31 Jan 2017 00:00:00 GMT London Fields is now using ACT’s recently launched ACT365 Cloud-based access control and video management system. The site is a co-working and private offices facility in east London and is run by Work.Life. Members are provided with hot-desking, meeting rooms, visitor greeting service and retreat areas. Work.Life operate additional London premises across the city.

ACT365 system

Vision Security Services installed ACT365 in order to provide the client with unified management of access points and CCTV; both locally and remotely. ACT365 allows the operator to activate doors and analyse their status from any major web browser or ACT's own App. London Fields can claim to be the UK’s first integrated access control and VMS installation running from a single platform solely on the Cloud.

The ACT solution was implemented late in the construction stage at the Hackney project; the client had initially used a conventional system but realised the benefits and economies available from Cloud management of this and potentially other locations.

Remote management

The software allows Work.Life to make immediate remote adjustments to a user's details, including updating access privileges when a lapsed membership is renewed. Crucially, ACT365 will also generate muster reports during a building evacuation, with marshals being able to see instantly from their phone or smart device if members have mustered out. This function can be used remotely if required.

The ACT solution has allowed Vision Security Services to exploit existing MIFARE cards to activate doors from ACTpro MIFARE 1040 proximity readers. The readers are designed to enable multiple applications of cards often in office environments.

"There are very few true Cloud-based access control solutions - ACT365’s ability to synchronise access control events instantly to camera footage
may well be unique"

Reg Butler, a director of Vision Security Services, said: "We chose ACT after exhaustive research. There are very few true Cloud-based access control solutions, and ACT365’s ability to synchronise access control events instantly to camera footage from a single platform means no time is wasted searching through video. This aspect may well be unique.”

He continued: “ACT365 appeals to our end-users in terms of functionality and price point. They also appreciate being able to view sites and even open and lock doors based on what they are seeing on a camera feed, all from a smartphone or web browser."

Access and video control units

Local and head office staff for London Fields use an ACU (access control unit) in combination with a VCU (video control unit) within the same ACT365 software. Management of satellite sites from headquarters is particularly valuable since London Fields encourages flexible work patterns by being available 24 hours a day. The VCU is operating with turret cameras from Hikvision which are giving 1080p images at 25 frames per second.

Current deployments of ACT365 are proving exceptionally rapid, and on new-build projects the software assists installation engineers by diagnosing problems such as power supply and break-glass faults. Work.Life is now preparing for three additional roll-outs at other sites.

‘As-a-service’ model

David Moran, Marketing Director at ACT, said: “You don’t have to preach the Cloud now. People already get it and in this case the end-user actually asked for Cloud software. A crucial aspect of London Fields is that access control door events have a dynamic link to video cameras for immediate verification of what might be a threat, an innocent error by a user or an equipment fault. Triggering a video feed when a door event occurs is the ideal way of giving managers an informative view of an incident.”

ACT365 is ideally suited to clients who have multiple sites where extensive computer server equipment at each location is impractical or unnecessary. The software operates from a compact unit involving minimal capital cost and is provided to installers by ACT and its distribution partners on an 'as-a-service' model. Clients are able to focus on their core operations without being distracted by technical concerns such as firewalls, router settings, patches and firmware upgrades.

Eff Eff, ACT’s partner in France have won a three-year public contract to supply ACT products to the northern region of the Department of Fire and Rescue (SDIS) in France. The SDIS have 121 locations in the northern region of France and are responsible for the prevention, protection, and fight against fires. In addition, they participate with other public services during emergency evacuations, natural disasters, and catastrophes.

ACTpro equipment is currently being rolled out across 121 SDIS locations. Many of the locations have two doors to secure while some facilities have up to five doors. At each door, an ACTpro 1500e controller accompanied by the ACTpro 1030e slimline proximity readers has been installed. ACTpro provides SDIS with the following benefits:

• Reduced Costs: Never change a lock on these doors again.
• Convenient: Easily enable or disable cards or fobs for joining/leaving employees.
• Secure Doors: Doors are secured when door is closed.

• Control Access Rights & Times: Decide when and where staff have access.
• Reporting: Know the who when and where in your premises
• Fire Muster List: Keep an accurate list of all employees on site in the event of a fire.

SDIS have their own technical team who carry out the installation of the ACTpro hardware. The ACTpro 1500e has given the installer ultimate flexibility. They can install the controller using IP at every door, create a hub from RS485 or, most importantly, expand using Ethernet by utilising the unit’s dual Ethernet switch. The controller is both flexible and scalable.

There are currently ten sites installed to date with another forty sites coming on line in 2017.

<![CDATA[Dr Organic prescribes ACT365 naturally]]> http://www.accesscontroltechnology.com/media/item/dr-organic-prescribes-act365-naturally http://www.accesscontroltechnology.com/media/item/dr-organic-prescribes-act365-naturally Tue, 01 Nov 2016 00:00:00 GMT

Secured Alarm Systems has installed ACT’s Cloud-based access control system, ACT365, at the new UK base of Dr Organic, a natural skincare and beauty product company. Dr Organic created a production, design and distribution centre within the 18-acre Swansea Enterprise Park to consolidate its operations in Europe.

ACT365 gives users simple but powerful management of access points both locally and remotely. It allows the operator to analyse door status and activate doors from any major web browser or ACT's own App. ACT365 also unifies VMS with access control, enabling users to control cameras from the same platform.

The software is allowing Dr Organic to make immediate remote adjustments to a user's privileges including disabling a card after any breach of access protocol even if it is an innocent error. (A common occurrence might be a contractor forgetting to hand in their card or fob after finishing an assignment.)

Rapid installation using structured cabling

Secured Alarm Systems worked with the client's IT consultant, SA1 Solutions, to exploit existing Cat6 infrastructure and assign IP addresses to the ACT hardware. Dr Organic is using ACTpro 1040e 125kHz proximity readers and also opted for another recent innovation, ACTpro 1520e single-door controllers.

Matthew Giffard, managing director of Secured Alarm Systems, said: "The installation at Dr Organic was rapid and hassle-free. An outstanding feature of ACT365 is that if the client reports a fault on their access control system we've got the ability to assess the situation via the Cloud from our own office and make modifications without necessarily visiting site. This enhances our offering to clients and of course end-users also appreciate the remote visibility of their premises."
Matthew continued: "ACT365 is showing exceptional functionality in terms of ability to programme user time zones and door groups. The responsiveness of the system was illustrated recently when a Dr Organic member of staff had a highly unusual but legitimate access control request involving external doors. We were able to adjust the privileges on their fob from our office promptly and with no disruption to the system."
ACT365 removes the need for extensive PC equipment on site. It operates from a compact unit involving minimal capital cost and is provided to installers by ACT and its distribution partners on an 'as-a-service' model. Clients are able to focus on their core operations without being potentially distracted by technical concerns such as firewalls, router settings, patches and firmware upgrades.

Sustainability consistent with client ethics

By minimising both miles driven during installer site visits and fossil fuel usage in manufacture of unnecessary components, ACT365 is environmentally friendly. This is particularly appropriate for a client such as Dr Organic who employ organic ingredients wherever possible and avoid petro-chemicals such as paraffin and petroleum in their products. Dr Organic exports to the US and to do this it must meet strict regulations from the United States Department of Homeland Security. The ACT system is contributing to this compliance.
Swansea-based Secured Alarm Systems operate across access control, CCTV and fire protection. The company works in many sectors including civil infrastructure, retail, social housing, student accommodation and local NHS. Secured Alarm Systems cover the whole of the south west of the UK. The company is a member of the National Security Inspectorate and BAFE; their staff are fully trained in the Construction Skills Certification Scheme.

End-user sectors include education, real estate and general commerce.

Work.Life provides local workspace for freelancers and entrepreneurs and brings creative workspace to local areas from as little as £3.50 per hour. The first site in Camden opened last year and reached full occupancy in eight weeks with brands such as Dr Martens and MTV taking up residency. Work.Life is in the process of opening a seven further London sites with expansion this year to Birmingham and Manchester. Co-founder Elliot Gold even commissions original murals from leading graphic artists to suit building environments.

<![CDATA[ACT365 travels well with Travix]]> http://www.accesscontroltechnology.com/media/item/act365-travels-well-with-travix http://www.accesscontroltechnology.com/media/item/act365-travels-well-with-travix Thu, 15 Sep 2016 00:00:00 GMT Quantum Security have installed ACT’s Cloud-based access control system, ACT365, at the new central London offices of Travix, an online travel company operating in 29 countries.

As a technology-driven organisation, Travix wanted remote connectivity with their site via smart devices. ACT is delivering this by giving users control of access points via any major web browser or ACT365’s own App.

When not at the premises, Travix managers have visibility of access requests to their external doors and diagnostics for door status throughout their offices. Quantum were able to install the whole system in less than a day using existing structured cabling that had been prepared for Travix’s IT network.

ACT365 will give Travix instant muster reports during a building evacuation. The installation includes use of ACTpro MIFARE proximity readers and in the event of an emergency, marshals will see instantly on the ACT365 App if staff members have not mustered out.

Travix facility managers appreciated the flexibility of being able to enable or disable MIFARE cards all from the App interface, and Quantum engineers demonstrated this functionality during installation from a network point and even before the client’s computer systems were operating.

Reduced total cost of ownership (TCO) by minimising call-outs

Travix is using ACT365 for diagnostic reports on door status and can investigate situations such as door forced, door ajar and break glass activation either locally or remotely. Authorised Quantum engineers also have log-in details and can look at event history at a door and give the client advice which frequently avoids the need for a costly call-out to the site. Routine maintenance and system health checks can all be performed from the installer’s premises.

Jason Draper, Operations Manager at Quantum Security, supervised the Travix installation. He said: “Our first project with ACT365 proved incredibly smooth. The ease and speed of implementation (less than a day) exceeded even the high expectations we have of ACT.”

Jason continued: “We now have a full ACT365 system running in our own offices and our design engineers are drilling down into the software’s capabilities. Future installations will exploit ACT365’s potential as a Cloud-based access control solution that also offers video management from a single unified platform.”

OPEX not CAPEX with no upgrade/patch concerns

Early adopters of ACT365 are realising that ACT’s delivery method fits an ‘as a service’ model and while the software is an operational cost it makes minimal demands in terms of capital costs for equipment that might become obsolescent. Installers should note that ACT365 offers a recurring revenue opportunity while still representing exceptional value for the end-user.

Travix has offices in the Netherlands, Germany, India, Singapore and the USA. The company employs over 450 people and operates at least 50 planes a day to 500 destinations with more than 2.5 million passengers travelling with the company each year.

Hertfordshire-based Quantum Security are an SSAIB-approved installer and excel in CCTV and intruder alarms as well as access control. The company specialises in ground-up project design and is active in sectors including leisure, retail, broadcast and catering. Quantum are recognised installers for Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Thames Valley and Metropolitan Police.

How best to protect building occupants? How can we minimise damage in the event of an attack?

ACT have released a security lockdown feature which is being rolled out across many education facilities.

Security Lockdown operates as follows:

  • Install designated Security Lockdown readers in appropriate locations.

  • Present a lockdown card to these readers to trigger the security lockdown.

  • All predetermined doors will lockdown immediately - hindering the attackers progress.

  • The doors will only open if a “bypass” card is presented to the door (to be used by security personnel).

  • The doors will remain secure even if a valid card is presented.

  • The only way to get through the door is to have a pre-programmed bypass card or if somebody on the secure side of the door activates the green break glass unit.

We recommend you discuss with your customers if 'Security Lockdown' is a priority.

<![CDATA[ACT365 - Integrated Security Anytime, Anywhere]]> http://www.accesscontroltechnology.com/media/item/act365-integrated-security-anytime-anywhere http://www.accesscontroltechnology.com/media/item/act365-integrated-security-anytime-anywhere Tue, 05 Apr 2016 00:00:00 GMT PRODUCT LAUNCH WITH A DIFFERENCE FOR ACT –

Boldly going where no security product has gone before.

ACT have launched their latest cloud based product ‘ACT365’ in a very unique way.

The challenge was to convey the major benefits of ACT365 in a simple yet interesting and fun way. ACT365 is a cloud based integrated access control and video management solution that can be accessed from anywhere in the world using a web browser or the ACT365 Smart Phone App. ACT365 suits applications that require remote access, need to manage multiple sites across the country or even the planet and of course those sites that demand a cloud based security solution. So, what better way to launch ACT365, than by launching it into space?

David Moran, Marketing Director of ACT, said: “ACT365 provides our installers with benefit of remote diagnostics and servicing, the end user benefits through remote management and monitoring of their security system. We thought we would send it somewhere pretty remote and really show it to the world. It’s a cloud product of course but ACT always likes to go one level higher so we’ve sent it up 34 kilometres into the upper atmosphere!”

He continued: “ACT is celebrating its twenty-first year in 2016, so it’s important to us to launch a product that represents the future of the security industry. Cloud based, integrated solutions with native mobile apps are all technology trends that are here to stay, and we believe we have brought this technology to new levels with ACT365.”

An ACT reader and a mini-dome camera mounted to a board were launched from a site in Sheffield tethered to a weather balloon, which travelled 34km up and drifted for approx. 50 miles. It eventually landed 5 hours later in a Champion Show Jumper’s back garden near Leicester who kindly allowed us to retrieve it.

The footage will show you the board from launch to reaching its peak altitude, if you look carefully you can see ice build-up inside the mini dome camera with the weather balloon clearly reflected in the glass. An amazing scene unfolds on the ascent with the curvature of the earth with its thin blue atmosphere clearly visible above a carpet of cloud across the Earth. This comes to an end with the balloon exploding and the payload free falling back towards earth before the parachute is fully deployed.

See launch video here:

https://youtu.be/ydcyS78FJyE

ACT365 – The Benefits

ACT365 gives users simple but powerful management of CCTV and control of access points from a single unified platform. The software allows the operator to not only view their site but also activate cameras and analyse door status remotely either from a web browser or ACT’s own App.

ACT365 moves access control and video monitoring away from investment in capital equipment and personnel to a remote, automated alternative. It is ideal for remote sites such as water or telecoms towers, property management companies, small businesses with limited IT resource and of course any businesses with multiple sites such as gyms, retail or restaurant franchises.

Use of the cameras need not be incident-driven only and the system accommodates customers wanting to check on their site routinely for peace of mind. Gate automation can be integrated with door access control for an additional layer of security.

Installers and estate managers responsible for groups of premises can use the software to manage hundreds of individual sites. Benefits extend beyond the absence of on-site NVRs and computer equipment. ACT365 allows small offices to focus on their core operations and eliminates a host of distracting overheads and technical concerns such as firewalls, router settings, firmware upgrades, patches and data back-up.

Users have the assurance of authenticated connections and robust encryption from ACT’s chosen Cloud service, Microsoft Azure. They can also control what information they wish to share with their installer, allowing unrestricted access to all video streams or simply flagging up status diagnostics.

To find out more about how you or your clients can benefit from ACT365 or to organise a demo please call 00353 1 4662570 or email sales@act.eu.

<![CDATA[New ACTpro 1520e Single Door IP Controller now released]]> http://www.accesscontroltechnology.com/media/item/new-actpro-1520e-single-door-ip-controller-now-released http://www.accesscontroltechnology.com/media/item/new-actpro-1520e-single-door-ip-controller-now-released Mon, 07 Mar 2016 00:00:00 GMT ACT has released a single-door IP controller aimed at new and existing customers.

The ACTpro 1520e gives integrators ultimate flexibility. They can install the controller using IP at every door, create a hub from RS485 or, most importantly, expand using Ethernet by exploiting the unit’s dual Ethernet switch.

The controller is both flexible and scalable. New clients will usually opt to connect the ACTpro 1520e sequentially as a daisy chain but ACT’s legacy clients can use it seamlessly with the company’s two and four-door controllers.

The ACTpro 1520e offers the benefits of distributed intelligence, anti passback, interlock and status LEDs. The controller is designed to work from ACT’s latest management software, ACTenterprise. It can be used with all of ACT’s readers including the RFID 125KHz, MIFARE Classic and DESFire EV1.

  • Compatibility: Backwards compatible with entire ACTpro Range

  • Scalability: Scales from 1 door to thousands of doors

  • Flexibility: IP at every door or expand using ethernet cable

  • Simplicity: Easy to specify – 1 ACTpro 1520e per door

The R&D team at ACT has created the ACTpro 1520e controller with user convenience and total cost of ownership (TCO) in mind. The extensive diagnostic aids include voltage monitoring, break glass monitoring, reader short circuit protection, tamper alert and mains present monitoring.

The controller can be used on major sites and a single unit will operate with multiple entry & exit readers. Scalability is virtually unlimited. A network of up to 4,000 doors can be created and a client site could have 60,000 users with each user having four credentials.

Installers will appreciate the ample space in the enclosure for cable management. The controller has a 2 Amp power supply though a non-PSU variant, the ACTpro1500e, is also available. The product is available now from ACT’s installer and distribution channels.

The ACTpro 1520e is extremely simple to specify – you need one ACTpro 1520e per door.

This policy does NOT apply to the Viquest range which has a 3 year warranty and is subject to our standard terms and conditions.

Sounds great, so how does it work?

1. Installer contacts ACT’s Tech Support team on +353 1 4662570 or +44 161 2369488

2. Tech Support will issue an RMA to the Installer. Installer identifies which distributor he will return it to. (Product must be Faulty and within Warranty)

3. Installer brings the item and RMA number to distributor.

4. If the installer hasn’t got RMA number the distributor can contact ACT to get one.

5. Distributor issues a replacement item or a credit to the installer immediately.

(Note: Individual distributors may follow their own returns policy so please contact your distributor for details)

6. Distributor sends item back to ACT

7. ACT issue replacement item or credit to the distributor.

Good Faith Agreement

The above policy operates on the basis of good faith. If the level of returns from any individual installer or distributor is deemed exceptional we will call you and make a discretionary decision based on the circumstances. The distributor should ensure that the product has not been subject to vandalism or damage due to an act of god. In this event the distributor should advise the installer that a credit note or replacement will not be issued. ACT reserve the right to revert back to our standard terms and conditions. These state that we will repair or replace any goods with manufacturing faults within the warranty period.

Life Sciences Park Malta

Laboratory space within €38m science campus

ACT is securing a newly-opened laboratory complex at a healthcare science park funded in part by the European Union.
Life Sciences Park Malta provides fully-equipped or shell-form facilities for companies requiring an interim space to conduct experiments.
Security is stringent and ACT was selected to provide wide-ranging access control at the 11,000 m² site across a hundred doors covering laboratories, offices, lecture theatres, meeting rooms and communal areas.

The building is using ACTpro MIFARE DESFire EV1 1030 contactless smart card readers which allow exceptional levels of encryption both at the door and card. The door controllers are the ACTpro 4200 model and the installation is operating from ACTenterprise control software which is able to provide the detailed reporting needed in a stringently health and safety-conformant environment.

  • additional encryption levels
  • ongoing reconfiguration to suit flexible space
  • over 100 doors secured

Any science institution whose employees have hierarchical duties will benefit from the role-based approach of ACTenterprise. Administrators, security staff and laboratory scientists all have specific functionality available to them according to their particular needs with the interface giving the look and feel of a web browser experience. The flexibility of ACTenterprise is invaluable at a site that is reconfigured on a regular basis.

The park is a €38m facility for companies operating in biology and bioethics. It is located near newly-built hospital and university projects in the town of San Ġwann in the centre of Malta.

ACT has worked with its local installation partner, Mediterranean Protection Solutions (MPS), with whom it has also secured harbours on the island of Malta.

Here is your 3 Step Guide for selling eLock.

ACTpro eLock is the wireless always online lock from ACT. ACTpro eLock boasts the following features:

  • Range: 150m range between eLock and Hub

  • Battery: Battery life up 210,000 activations (3 years)

  • Ratio: 32 eLocks per eLock Hub

Follow these 3 Steps to successful eLock Sales...

Step 1: Ask the team at marketing@act.eu to create a customised ACTpro eLock Email for your company to send to your database or Send the eLock Promo Video – follow this link https://youtu.be/hnwu17yme_s

Step 2: Focus on internal doors that need access control such as serviced offices, student accommodation, hospitals or any door a mag lock would not suit.

Step 3: Explain that the ACTpro eLock halves the cost of an installed access control door – there are no mag locks, push buttons, break glass units or controllers to wire. The labour per door is 40 minutes versus the traditional 4 hours. Check out how easy it is to install an ACTpro eLock at https://youtu.be/iA41t3r6t74

If you need any assistance with eLock demonstrations please contact us on sales@act.eu and we will assist you.
